Shami Kabab Recipe

Description: Shami Kababs is a popular Pakistani dish made from ground meat, lentils, and spices, shaped into patties, and shallow-fried until golden. They are perfect as an appetizer, snack, or part of a main course.

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef or chicken
  • 1/2 cup chana dal (split chickpeas), soaked
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander (for garnish)
  • Oil for frying

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Meat and Lentils:
    • In a pot, combine ground meat, soaked chana dal, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric, and salt.
    • Add water and cook until the meat is tender and the lentils are soft.
  2. Grind and Shape:
    • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then grind it into a smooth paste.
    • Shape the paste into small patties (kababs).
  3. Fry the Kababs:
    • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
    • Fry the kababs until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Serve:
    • Garnish with fresh coriander and serve the Shami Kababs hot with chutney or raita.
